ECONOMIC BEHAVIOR TRANSFORMATION OF BANJARESE RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY IN SUSTAINABLE ECONOMICS PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the behavior transformation of Banjarese riverside communities in utilizing the river for economic activities from a sustainable economic perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach. The subject of this study is riverside communities in Banjarmasin area.  Data was collected through interviews and observation.  Data were analyzed with descriptive technique. The result shows that the river culture that develops in Banjarmasin area still maintains several of its local values as proved by the persistence of several traditions in the use of rivers for daily life and several economic activities that are reflected in the production, consumption, and distribution activities of local communities. There are some transformations in people’s behavior related to economic activities that are affected by modernization and technological changing. The river is not the main resource for their daily life needs anymore and more to be a complementary resource. From a sustainable economic perspective, the persistence of river culture that tends to be still traditional turns out to help in the preservation of rivers so that the balance of life in the local area is still maintained.
